I have a job and a purpose to give
It won’t change the world but it helps me to live
Means each day begins with a real expectation
Keeps the stranger inside from procrastination
Each decision I make gives a sense of achieving
And the words that I speak seem more worth believing
I have value on show for the whole world to see
I’m contributing, yes, adding value – that’s me
I have a job and a heart full of yearning
As my spirit is sacrificed, slowly burning
Means each moment is raging with intense emotions
A corporate cadaver just going through motions
Every action is tinged with the smell of the grave
The relentless march of the next new wave
I am crippled inside and that no one can see
I’m contributing, yes, just surviving – that’s me
I have a job so be grateful be sure
It will pay the bills, keep the wolf from the door
Means the juxtaposition of work and desire
Are the stuff of experience, tested by fire
Every moment providing the chance to become
A soul that can grasp how the race should be run
I am growing inside when I stop to review
I’m contributing, yes, growing wiser – that’s new
We all need to feel that we add value and often the easiest way is via our work.
How about going to another country for a year as a volunteer?
