Knife Edge
We are poised on a knife edge, more or less,
Afraid to be honest we acquiesce.
Diluting opinions to appeal to the mass,
An honest expression of views seen as crass.
The slightest misstep, much more than remiss,
Provokes vomit and bile from the social abyss.
Lives drawn and quartered, love is devoured;
Each cut from a craven, anonymous, coward.
We’re drowning in fear, afraid and unsure
Of the lies and perversions of truth we endure.
Alternative facts now define what is real,
Agendas dictate how we live, think and feel.
A barrage of sound bites, news feeds and notions,
Augmented to drive and incite our emotions.
We believe without question, act without care,
BOT media leads us, it’s happy to share.
Opening the doors to our needs and desires,
Feeding the profit and fueling the fires.
Insisting, coercing, conspicuous proof,
All tailored to bolster our personal truth.
We crave the connections, potential for wealth,
Virtual lives, virtual friends and virtual health.
Born again and constructed in cyberspace,
Our next evolution the cyber race.
It’s Pandora V2, her box is outdated,
Every possible outcome can now be conflated.
Energized with a like, controlled with a tap,
Motivated to act by one click in an App.
Living and loving, all senses demoted,
Preserving humanity’s been outvoted.
