One Word

Don’t be so ridiculous your logic is absurd
You can’t renounce a friendship on the basis of one word
It may have been misspoken or a momentary jest
A lapse in concentration when particularly stressed

It happens to the best of us and even to the worst
A casual response thrown in that hasn’t been rehearsed
Ill-considered interjections, turns of phrase that miss the mark
Turning fun, light hearted moments into grasping in the dark

That’s the thrill of conversation and playing to the crowd
Expounding deep philosophies 10 decibels too loud
We’re all actors in our life play each rehearsing daily scenes
Giving voice to mostly half-baked thoughts and long lost childhood dreams

So when that errant word attacks and hurts your gentile heart
Remember you’re a player, take the stage and play your part
Sell the dream, live the moment and remember with a friend
The parts we play are safer they already know the end
